Our Origins and Future

Our Founding
Kavya Kumaran (right) and Juhi Narula (left) met at freshman orientation and have gone on to become each other's best friends, ride-or-dies, and co-founders! SASA was dreamed up over a Sunday dining hall brunch when both women found themselves frustrated at the lack of South Asian representation on campus. They began discussing the type of community they desperately craved and then realized... they could create it! SASA was born to connect the various South Asian identities on campus and provide a platform, voice, and environment to discuss collective brown identity. Since having Ambi Narula and Shivani Amin (middle) join the founding board as VP of Marketing and Executive VP, the organization has experienced explosive growth. Within a year, SASA has grown to 17 executive board members and over 200 general body members. The founders believe this is only the beginning and hope to leave a legacy of advocacy and inclusion on campus through SASA.
